Abstract

Our study has been planned with the aim of the determination of the seroprevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus type 1/2 (HIV-1/2) seromarkers in healthy blood donors. The blood samples collected from healthy blood donors from January 2002 to December 2003 were examined by “microparticle enzyme immunoassay” (MEIA) method using Abbott-Axsym test kits at microbiology routine laboratory. Of 5028 blood donors, 2.6 % were HBsAg, 0.4 % were anti-HCV positive. None of cases were positive for anti-HIV-1/2. According to the results, HBV and HCV seroprevalence in our region was found lower than most of other regions in our country.
